- 350 g Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 200 g Butter, at room temperature
- 150 g Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 large Egg, at room temperature
- 1 tsp Liquid Red Dye
Instructions
- Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the butter.
- Add the sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is fluffy.
- Add the egg and mix.
- Add the flour mixture and stir or knead until no visible flour remains.
- Divide the dough into two equal parts.
- Add the red dye to half of the dough.
- Stir in the dye using a spatula or knead by hand. If necessary, add more dye until the dough is a bright, rich color.
- Place both doughs in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C / 350 F.
- Divide the dough into balls. Roll each ball into a thick rope. Place a red rope and a plane rope next to each other and twist.
- Transfer the dough to a baking tray lined with baking paper and make a cane shape. Cut off the ends.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes. Let cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes.
